SBBS Tooway Fair Access Policy

Simply Balanced Business Services believes that all customers should be able to enjoy the benefits of their Satellite Broadband services. Our services are built around the idea that light users pay less for their connection, and heavy users pay more based around how much data they use.

This procedure ensures quality of service across all of our services, and no one experiences poor performance due to excessive use by a small handful of customers. If we did not implement a Fair Access Policy or FAP then we could experience poor speeds across the network with approximately 80% of all data allowance being consumed by approx. 20% of customers.

How it works

All of the different service levels are given sliding time windows. In any given time window there is a maximum amount of data you can transfer. If you exceed this limit then the Fair Access Policy will take effect and you will see a reduction in speed across your connection. At no time do we cut off, you will still be able to use your connection but just at a reduced headline speed.

What can I do if the Fair Access Policy takes effect?

If you find that the Fair Access Policy has take effect, remember that we do not cut you off so you will still be able to use your service, but as mentioned before at a slower rate than the headline speeds.

At this point there are 3 options available:

The SBBS 100 service provides uncapped web browsing and email subject to certain usage conditions:

  Accounted Day Time Data from 06:00 - Midnight Service Limitations
A ≤ 40 GB None
B > 40 GB and ≤ 100GB Limitations applied during peak hours and periods of congestion
C >100 GB Only Web & Email available – See 1.1
D Volume Boosters Not Available - See 1.2

1.1 Web Browsing & Email

In order to fully enjoy web browsing and email, when service limitations are applied, the user needs to follow all of the guidelines below.

1.2 Volume Boosters

Volume Boosters cannot be added to the Broadband 100 service.

Eutelsat amendments to the Heavy User Policy:

The heavy user policy has now been changed to reflect that if a user uses more than 25% of their data in a single week, they may have their speeds limited in peak times (4pm-11pm).

This helps both in curbing excessive data throughput during peak times (which can cause congestion on the network as a whole), and also it passively slows the data use of the user in the policy. If they are using more than 25% of their data in a week, they can potentially use more than 100% of their data within their monthly data cycle. Once a user hits the 100% cap, they are on a significant speed restriction 24/7. However on this policy, they will only be in a light speed restriction only in peak times and will be completely unrestricted in off-peak times.

If the data of the user falls below 25% in the second week (calculated via a rolling 7 days), they will exit this policy.
